Your Guide to Getting Started on Makro Marketplace

Follow this guide to set up your account correctly, create quality listings, fulfil orders successfully and understand how fees and payments work.

Start with the essentials

Complete your profile, understand your responsibilities and fees, create accurate listings, choose a fulfilment method and prepare your business to manage orders reliably.

Step 1

Understand How a Marketplace Works

Makro Marketplace connects customers with independent sellers. Customers shop through Makro, while sellers manage their own products, pricing, stock and fulfilment responsibilities.

Makro Marketplace provides: The selling platform, customer reach and approved fulfilment options.

You manage: Your account, products, prices, stock, order preparation and seller performance.

Step 2

Know Your Seller Responsibilities

Selling on Makro Marketplace means operating within the required rules, policies and service standards.

Sell products that meet the required legal and Marketplace standards.

Provide accurate account, product, pricing and stock information.

Prepare and fulfil orders within your agreed service levels.

Manage returns and customer-related actions correctly.

Keep up to date with Marketplace rules and process changes.

Stay informed

Marketplace processes and requirements may change. Attend webinars and review Help Centre content regularly to stay up to date.

Build Your Marketplace Knowledge

Webinars and Help Centre articles provide practical guidance on using the Seller Portal and managing your account.

Step 3

Complete Your Seller Profile

Accurate profile information supports successful courier collections, account communication and order management.

Business details: Make sure your registered information is correct.

Primary contact: Capture someone who is available when Makro or a courier needs assistance.

Pickup locations: Capture the complete address used for courier collections.

Inventory: Update inventory for each location from which you will fulfil orders.

Pickup Address is not your Business Address

Couriers collect from the Pickup Address captured in the Account section. Make sure this address is complete, specific and accurate.

Step 4

Understand Your Seller Fees

Review all applicable costs before setting your product prices.

Fee How It Applies
Platform Fee Charged monthly when you have at least one active listing.
Commission A percentage charged on each unit sold.
Final-Mile Fee Charged on each unit successfully delivered.
FBM Fees First-mile and storage fees relate only to Fulfilled by Makro.

Use the Seller Fee Calculator to estimate your commission, transport fees, expected payout and profitability before listing a product.

Check Your Profitability

Confirm that your selling price covers your product cost and applicable Marketplace fees.

Review the Understanding All the Fees guide and the Seller Commission Table.

Step 5

Create Strong Product Listings

A complete and accurate listing helps customers understand the product and supports correct fulfilment and fee calculations.

Use clear and accurate product titles.

Capture complete descriptions, specifications and attributes.

Add clear, high-quality product images.

Capture the correct selling price and inventory.

Set a realistic Pick & Pack SLA that you can consistently achieve.

Capture accurate Package Details for the fully packaged product.

Package Details affect fulfilment

The package dimensions and weight captured in the listing information help determine the correct courier allocation and transport fee.

Step 6

Choose Your Fulfilment Method

You can fulfil products through FBS, FBM or a combination of both.

FBS — Fulfilled by Seller

You store the stock at your premises and manage picking, packing and labelling.

Once ready, you hand the parcel to the Makro-appointed courier for delivery.

FBM — Fulfilled by Makro

You send consignment stock to a Makro Fulfilment Centre.

Makro manages storage, picking, packing, delivery and returns.

Step 7

Manage Orders Successfully

Reliable order fulfilment starts with preparation.

Hold stock: Avoid relying on suppliers who may not have stock available.

Meet your SLA: Pick and pack each order within the agreed timeframe.

Package securely: Protect the product from movement and damage.

Generate the waybill when ready: A courier may arrive soon after it is generated.

Label accurately: Attach the correct waybill to the correct parcel.

Check the courier: Handover the parcel only to the courier shown on the waybill.

Do not use your own courier for FBS orders

Generating the waybill automatically allocates the order to a Makro-appointed courier who will collect from your pickup location.

Step 8

Understand the Payment Schedule

Makro Marketplace pays sellers twice a month. The payment run is based on the date the order was delivered to the customer, not the order date.

End-of-Month Payment Run

Includes orders delivered between the 1st and the 15th of the current month.

Mid-Month Payment Run

Includes orders delivered between the 16th and the end of the previous month.

Delivered orders: Eligible for payment.

Returns: Approved returns reverse the original sale and affect your payment.

Fees and arrears: Commission, transport fees, platform fees and outstanding balances may affect the final amount paid.
