Common Listing Rejection Reasons

Common Listing Rejection Reasons

Common Listing Rejection Reasons and How to Fix Them

When listing products on Makro Marketplace, there are several common reasons why your product submission may be rejected by the Quality Control (QC) team. Below are the most frequent causes of listing rejection and steps on how to resolve them. You can also check out this document to assist you OR sign up and attend our Rejection Reasons Webinar here.

1. Brand Mismatch

A brand mismatch occurs when the image provided does not match the brand name entered for the product.

Example:

If you input "Best Mug" as the brand name for a coffee mug but the image uploaded does not show the brand or shows a different brand, QC will fail the listing to protect the brand name integrity.

How to Fix:

  • Ensure that the product image clearly reflects the brand name. For example, the image of the mug should visibly show "Best Mug" on it.
  • If you mistakenly input the wrong brand name, start the listing process again, ensuring that the brand name matches the product label.

2. Brand Abuse

Brand abuse happens when you use a brand name incorrectly or inconsistently in the listing.

Examples:

  • Inputting the brand name in an incorrect field, such as the Model Name/Number. The brand name should not be included in these fields to avoid duplication in the title logic.
  • Using inconsistent brand names, such as inputting "Logitec" as the brand name but referring to "Microsoft" in another field (e.g., in the description).

How to Fix:

  • Make sure the brand name is input only in the brand name field and not in the model name/number or other sections.
  • Ensure the brand name is consistent across all fields, including the description and other relevant sections.

3. Sales Package Error (Universal Guideline)

The sales package field refers to the contents included in the box. This field must describe exactly what the customer will receive.

Common Errors:

  • Including brand names or model numbers in the sales package field.
  • Incorrect formatting, such as improperly separated values.

How to Fix:

  • Describe what the customer is receiving in simple terms (e.g., 1 x device, 1 x charger, 1 x manual).
  • Do not include extra product specifications.
  • If using a loadsheet, separate multiple items using :: or ||. In single listings, use the "+" icon to create new lines.

4. SKU Not Allowed to Be Updated

This error typically occurs when the system detects that the product you’re trying to list already exists on the platform.

How to Fix:

  • Double-check your product’s details and images to ensure it’s not already listed.

  • If the product is the same but has different attributes (e.g., size or colour), ensure that the vertical supports variants. If not, create a new product listing with a unique image to differentiate it from the existing one.

  • Click HERE for an article on creating variants

Tip: If you are creating a variant, ensure the image differs from the existing product to avoid this error.

5. Legal Error

A legal error occurs when the product violates one of Makro Marketplace's compliance policies.

Examples:

  • Listing prohibited items such as firearms or other restricted products.
  • Using inappropriate or offensive language in the product description.

How to Fix:

  • Review Makro’s prohibited product list and ensure your item does not fall under restricted categories.
  • Ensure the language in your product description complies with Makro's standards.

6. Incorrect Vertical

If the product information and images provided don’t match the vertical you’ve selected, your listing may be rejected.

How to Fix:

  • Review the product details and select the appropriate vertical.
  • If QC suggests a different vertical, ensure that the information in your listing matches that category and start the process again by selecting that vertical and inputting the relevant information.

7. Image Errors

Several image-related errors can cause a rejection, including:

  • Image size not large enough.
  • Poor image quality.
  • Watermarked images.
  • Missing mandatory images (certain verticals require more than one image).
  • Background not white.
  • Product not filling enough of the image (or taking up too much space).

How to Fix:

  • Ensure the product image meets the required size and quality standards.
  • Remove any watermarks from images.
  • If there is a mandatory image requirement, ensure that all required images are included.
  • Adjust the background to be solid white, if required.
  • Ensure the product occupies an appropriate amount of space within the image.

How to Review and Fix Errors

For both single listings and bulk uploads, errors can be easily reviewed and corrected:

  1. Single Listings:
If you click "Fix Error", you will be directed to the product creation page where the error will be displayed in the relevant field.

  2. Bulk Product Creation:

    • After submitting your file, download the failed loadsheet by clicking "Request" under the Correct Errors section.
    • Check Column C in the vertical tab of the file for detailed reasons of the error.
    • Errors will be highlighted in red, and explanations will appear when you hover over the cells.

Once you’ve made the necessary corrections, resubmit your listing for review.

By addressing these common rejection reasons, you can quickly resolve any issues and get your listings approved. Always double-check your images, descriptions, and categories to ensure they meet Makro Marketplace's standards.
