How to add variants of product listings

How to Create Variants on Makro Marketplace

What Are Variants?

Variants are products that are the same but differ based on one specific attribute, such as colour, size, or material. For example, a t-shirt that comes in different sizes or colours would be considered a variant of the same product.

Each product vertical on Makro has predefined attributes that can be used to create variants. These attributes help define how the product differs, such as colour, size, or other relevant features.

How to Create a Variant

There are three ways to create variants for your product: via the My Listings page, through the latching process, or by creating a new product from scratch if variants are not supported for your vertical or product type. Below are the steps for each method.

Method 1: Creating a Variant from the My Listings Page

  1. Navigate to My Listings Page:

    • Log in to your Seller Portal and go to Listings > My Listings.
  2. Select the Product to Create a Variant for:

    • Find the product you want to create a variant of.
    • Click on "Edit Listing" next to the product.
  3. Scroll to the Bottom:

    • Scroll down the page to find the section that displays your product details.
    • If the vertical allows variants, you will see an option at the bottom of the page called "Add A New Variant".
  4. Check for Variant Creation Option:

    • If your vertical supports variants, clicking "Add A New Variant" will bring up a box that shows you which attributes you can create a variant for (e.g., colour, size).
    • If the vertical does not support variants, the message "Variant creation is not enabled for this vertical" will appear.
  5. Create the Variant:

    • If variants are enabled, select the attribute you want to create a variant for (e.g., Colour).
    • Click "Create New" next to the attribute.
    • Enter the required field (e.g., the new colour or size) and click "Create".
  6. Submit for Quality Check:

    • Once you've added the variant information, you will be redirected to the product details page where you can input any additional listing information.
    • Click "Submit to QC" once you have completed the information to send your variant for review.

Method 2: Creating a Variant via the Latching Process

Alternatively, you can create a variant using the latching process:

  1. Go to Listings > Add New Listings:

    • Navigate to Listings > Add New Listings in your Seller Portal.
  2. Search for the Existing Product:

    • In the search bar, enter the FSN (product identifier) of the product you wish to create a variant for.
  3. Select "Add Variant":

    • Once you locate the product, click "Add Variant" next to it.
  4. Follow the Same Process as Before:

    • After selecting "Add Variant", you will be taken to the same process flow where you can choose the attribute (e.g., colour or size) for the variant, input the required field, and click "Create".
  5. Complete the Listing Information:

    • After creating the variant, you will be able to complete the listing details and submit it for Quality Check (QC).

Method 3: Create a New Product from Scratch (If Variants Are Not Supported)

If your vertical does not support variants or does not have the appropriate attribute for your product, you will need to create a new product listing from scratch.

  1. Navigate to Listings > Add New Listings:

    • Go to Listings > Add New Listings.
  2. Create a New Listing:

    • Instead of creating a variant, you will need to create a new listing for the product with a different SKU ID.
  3. Complete the Product Information:

    • Input all the required details for the new product, such as price, description, images, and package details.
  4. Submit for QC:

    • Once the new product details are completed, click Submit to send the listing for Quality Check.

Important: Creating a new product listing may trigger the "SKU not allowed to be updated" error. To avoid this, ensure that the primary product image for the variant is different from the original product image, as the system may flag it as a duplicate otherwise.

Important Notes

  • Predefined Attributes: If your vertical does not have any predefined attributes as "variant attributes," or if it does not have the correct one for your product, you must create a new product listing from scratch.
  • SKU Not Allowed to Be Updated Error: This error may appear when trying to create a variant, as the system detects a possible duplicate. To prevent this error, use a different product image for the variant.
