Common Listing Rejection Reasons

Common Listing Rejection Reasons and How to Fix Them

Understand why your product listing may be rejected by Quality Control and what you need to correct before resubmitting it.

Every product submitted to Makro Marketplace is reviewed by the Quality Control (QC) team. This process helps ensure that customers receive accurate product information, clear images and consistent listings.

When a listing is rejected, review the reason provided by QC and correct the affected information before resubmitting it. The most common rejection reasons and their solutions are explained below.

1

Incorrect Vertical

A vertical is the product category selected when creating a listing. Your listing may be rejected when the product information or images do not match the selected vertical.

Example: A gaming chair is submitted under an office desk vertical, or the images show a different type of product from the one associated with the selected vertical.

How to fix it

  • Review the product carefully and select the vertical that most accurately describes it.
  • If QC recommends a different vertical, restart the listing using the suggested vertical.
  • Complete all mandatory attributes required for the new vertical.
  • Ensure that the title, description, specifications and images all relate to the selected vertical.

2

Brand Mismatch

A brand mismatch occurs when the brand entered in the listing does not match the brand shown on the product, packaging or images.

Example: The brand name is entered as “Best Mug”, but the product image shows a different brand or does not provide enough evidence that the product is made by Best Mug.

How to fix it

  • Check that the brand entered matches the branding visible on the product or packaging.
  • Upload a clear image that shows the correct brand where appropriate.
  • If the incorrect brand was selected, restart the listing and enter the correct brand.
  • If the product is genuinely unbranded, select the appropriate non-branded option.

3

Brand Abuse

Brand abuse occurs when a brand name is used incorrectly, unnecessarily or inconsistently across the listing.

Common examples

  • Entering the brand name in the model name or model number field.
  • Repeating the brand in multiple fields, which may cause it to appear more than once in the title.
  • Entering one brand in the brand field but referring to a different brand in the description.
  • Using another brand’s name in a way that may mislead customers.

Example: “Logitec” is entered as the brand, while “Microsoft” is referred to elsewhere as though it is the product’s brand.

How to fix it

  • Enter the product’s brand only in the designated brand field.
  • Do not repeat the brand in the model name, model number or sales package fields.
  • Make sure the same brand is used consistently throughout the description, specifications and images.

4

Sales Package Error

The sales package field must explain exactly what the customer will receive when purchasing the product.

Common errors

  • Including the brand name or model number.
  • Adding product features or specifications.
  • Providing unclear or incomplete package contents.
  • Separating multiple items incorrectly.
  • Listing items that are not included in the package.

Correct example:

1 x Device

1 x Charger

1 x User Manual

How to fix it

  • List only the physical items included in the box or package.
  • Use simple item names and include the quantity of each item.
  • Do not include marketing statements, specifications, brand names or model numbers.
  • For bulk listings, separate multiple items using :: or ||, depending on the file format.
  • For single listings, use the + icon to add each package item separately.

5

SKU Not Allowed to Be Updated

This error usually appears when the system identifies that the product you are attempting to create may already exist on Makro Marketplace.

How to fix it

  • Search Makro Marketplace to check whether the product is already listed.
  • Compare the existing product’s barcode, brand, model, specifications and images with your product.
  • If it is the same product, add your offer to the existing product rather than creating a duplicate.
  • If the product is a genuine variation, such as a different colour or size, confirm that the vertical supports variants.
  • Ensure that the variation has the correct unique information and images.

Read the article on creating product variants

Important: Do not change an image only to bypass duplicate detection. The listing must represent a genuinely different product or supported variation.

6

Legal or Compliance Error

A legal or compliance rejection occurs when the product or listing does not meet Makro Marketplace’s legal, safety or product compliance requirements.

Common examples

  • Attempting to list prohibited or restricted products.
  • Listing firearms, regulated items or other products that may not be sold on the marketplace.
  • Using inappropriate, discriminatory or offensive language.
  • Making unsupported medical, safety or performance claims.
  • Providing information that may mislead customers.

How to fix it

  • Review Makro Marketplace’s prohibited and restricted product requirements.
  • Confirm that you are legally permitted to sell the product.
  • Remove inappropriate wording or unsupported claims.
  • Ensure that all information is accurate, factual and suitable for customers.
  • Do not resubmit a product that is prohibited from being sold on Makro Marketplace.

7

Image Errors

Product images are an important part of the customer experience. Listings may be rejected when the images are unclear, incomplete or do not meet the requirements for the selected vertical.

Common image errors

  • The image dimensions or resolution are too small.
  • The image is blurry, pixelated or poor quality.
  • The image contains a watermark.
  • The image does not have a suitable background.
  • A mandatory image or product angle is missing.
  • The product occupies too little or too much of the image.
  • The image shows additional items that are not included.
  • The image does not match the product being listed.
  • The image contains promotional wording or unrelated graphics.

How to fix it

  • Upload clear, high-quality images that accurately represent the product.
  • Remove all watermarks and promotional graphics.
  • Use a solid white background where required.
  • Make sure the full product is visible and appropriately centred.
  • Upload all mandatory images required for the selected vertical.
  • Do not show additional products or accessories unless they are included in the sales package.

How to Review and Correct Listing Errors

The process for reviewing errors differs slightly depending on whether you created the product individually or through a bulk upload.

Single Product Listings

  1. Open the rejected listing from the relevant listing section in the Seller Portal.

  2. Click Fix Error.

  3. You will be taken back to the product creation page.

  4. The rejection reason will be displayed against the relevant field.

  5. Correct the information and resubmit the product for QC review.

Bulk Product Creation

  1. Go to the Correct Errors section after submitting your file.

  2. Click Request to generate the failed loadsheet.

  3. Download the file once it is available.

  4. Open the relevant vertical tab and review the error details in Column C.

  5. Errors may be highlighted in red. Hover over the affected cells for additional information where available.

  6. Correct the identified errors and resubmit the loadsheet for review.

Before submitting a listing, review the selected vertical, brand, product attributes, sales package, description and images. Providing accurate information from the start will reduce rejections and help your products become available for sale sooner.
