Summary of FBM Inbound Packaging & Shipping Guide
Purpose
The guide sets the packaging and shipping requirements for sellers sending inventory to Makro Marketplace Fulfilment Centres (FBM). Sellers must comply to avoid rejection, penalties, or loss of FBM access.
Key Points
1. Packaging Requirements
- Use robust, six-sided corrugated boxes (max 22kg, 63.5cm per side; double-walled if needed).
- Alternatives: polybags, shrink wrap (only as inner packaging), or pallets (wooden, standard size, shrink-wrapped).
- No staples, perforated boxes, or old labels.
- Include a packing list if box contains multiple FSNs.
- Each unit must be in sellable packaging with correct barcodes/warnings.
2. Approved Infill Materials
- Allowed: air pillows, bubble wrap, foam sheets, full paper sheets.
- Not allowed: packing peanuts, shredded paper, crinkle wrap, loose styrofoam.
- Styrofoam only permitted if pre-packed by manufacturer (e.g., appliances).
3. Product-Specific Rules

- Apparel: In polybags + boxed; no hangers.
- Food: Expiry dates required; perishables not allowed.
- Fragile: Must have fragile/up labels and pass drop test.
- Heavy: Over 22kg requires weight labels; over 45kg “Team lift.” Max 75kg.
- Hazardous: Flammable/explosive/toxic/radioactive prohibited. Others must meet global standards.
- High Risk/Electronics: Secure packaging, tamper seals advised.
- Self-sufficient packaging: Allowed if durable, can endure transit, passes drop test, and can hold shipping labels.
4. Standards
- All packaging must be recyclable/biodegradable.
- Must withstand handling, stacking (20kg), warehouse dust, and a 1-metre drop test.
5. Labelling
- Avoid label congestion.
- Units must have scannable barcode (EAN or FSN).
- Consignments require a shipping label/waybill (contains consignment ID, courier, ship to/from, parcel info, weight, dimensions, date).

- Approved infill used.
- Units barcoded and in sellable packaging.
- Expiry dates correct.
